The Center for the Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology (CIMIT) sponsors an annual national competition designed to encourage the development of creative technological innovations with the potential to catalyze and support the improved delivery of medical care. Students from accredited engineering programs submitted ideas for fever differential diagnostic tools, cloud technology for monitoring health failure, a POC allergy diagnostics instrument, and rapid pathogen/microbial testing products.
A distinguished panel of technologists and primary care clinicians selected ten graduate students who presented innovative technology ideas which might improve the quality and efficiency of primary care medicine. These ten students/teams, who now qualify as finalists for the 2012 prize, have each earned a $10,000.00 award and will now develop a final proposal for their idea. The top three proposals, scheduled to be announced July 3rd, will share an additional $300,000.00 award.
Representing universities like Johns Hopkins, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Brown, University of California, San Francisco, Boston University, University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, State University of New York, Stony Brook University, and the University of Florida, these products and research could enhance delivery of healthcare at healthcare systems, hospitals, and benefit patients.
